After graduating from college I joined the Peace Corps. I spent 2 years in Tehran, Iran playing in the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. I returned to the U.S. and went back to school to get my Masters degree. I worked as a music teacher in the Bronx, N.Y. for several years. After that I worked at an electronic music studio in Hawthorne, N.Y. The studio eventually shut down and I began teaching Band at the Stamford Public Schools where I taught music at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Read More

We start by doing proper warm up exercises followed by learning or practicing rudiments. We work on our grip of the sticks and our movements while drumming. In other words, I teach economy of movement for maximum energy. If a student is flailing their arms, we talk about a more fluid movement by utilizing the wrists and incorporating finger control. Then we move on to reading out of instructional books which is then followed by practical application on the drum sets. With a beginner student I find Basix Syncopation for Drums by Alfred Publishing to be a very effective tool. A New York native and life-long professional drummer, I played Dvorak at Carnegie Hall, punk and ska music at CBGB's and classic rock at Wetlands in NYC all during high school. After furthering my studies in percussion performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, I founded progressive jazz quartet Schleigho, hit the road in 1991 and toured nationally until 2004 , releasing 5 CD's and playing over 3000 shows with the likes of jazz great John Scofield, funk legend Maceo Parker and rock icons The Allman Bothers Band, who signed them in 1998 to their record label, Flying Frog Records. I have taught students from ages 6 to 60. my approach is to help each student with the proper grip and posture and to learn to adjust there instrument for maximum comfort. I begin each lesson with rudiments/rolls and spend equal time on basic music theory(beginner) and sight reading(advanced), 4-way coordination(beginner) and transcribing recorded music(advanced). My goal is to help each student progress on there instrument and learn to blend with other musicians. Read More

I have always taught in one form or another over the past 56 years, but spent the last 15 years honing my teaching skills and working with as many students at every level to ensure that what and how I teach is easily translated into plain language for the students. I've played drums and percussion in bands across many genres including Jazz, Rock, Soul, R & B, and Country. But I love to teach, which I do privately out of my home studio in Northern Westchester County, NY, as well as one-on-one lessons in your home. Read More

My teaching style focuses on meeting you where you're at and helping you grow into the exact type of drummer that you want to be. I am also well versed in music theory and music history, including rock and pop history and I believe that exploring these things along with the lessons can be so helpful! I respect all students moving at their own pace. If you are struggling with something in between lessons, you can contact me and I will try to respond as soon as possible to help guide you through the exercise. Read More

Growing up my teachers always created an environment where the students can be creative and inspired. They nurtured us and helped mold us into to who we are today. As time went by I wanted to pass down what they instilled in me and be apart of the wave of teachers. I first began teaching at Neighborhood Music School's Summer Jazz Camp 8 years ago. My drum teacher selected me and other students to be mentors for the younger musicians. Read More
