I grew up in Santa Cruz, California, and began playing piano at age 9 with the help of my older sister who also played piano. During my high school years, I focused on composition, which became my main area of study during college. Through my college training at the University of California in Santa Cruz and San Jose State University I supported myself by giving piano lessons, playing organ and piano for churches, and working as a freelance pianist. My teaching has enabled me to work with young musicians of all ages and skill types. The approach I take is technique driven, while at the same time, expressive, musically sensitive, and fun! Voice students will learn English and foreign language diction, ear training and sight-singing, proper posture, stage presence, confidence, and healthy vocal production suitable for all styles of singing. Drum students will learn the importance of snare drum rudiments, how to read drum charts, the nuances of various styles, as well as, develop dexterity and increase muscular function and independence. Born and raised in Connecticut, Ryan Sands began his musical journey in 2012 and is working to become one of the top on-call musicians in his area. Growing up between New Haven, CT, and Orange, CT, Ryan received his formal training at Neighborhood Music School and Educational of the Arts.   I have taught in a school setting as well, at Rye Country Day School for 8 years, a very rigorous K-12, with a 30 student drum studio, as band and orchestra assistant director and coordinating the entire private music lesson program of 15 teachers, 275 students and 15 practice rooms- a great way to hone my organizational skills and administrative abilities.   Most recently I have had the honor of teaching 40 weekly adult students at Google Inc in Mountain View, CA in my own studio with 2 sets and PA system for play-along opportunities.
