My teaching experience spans back to when I was in High School. I came from a very fortunate music program that focused heavily on marching band and jazz music. I had helped many incoming freshmen develop the skills necessary to succeed in the music program and watched them blossom into very talented, hard working musicians. I have been teaching since 1977. I have studied with the late, great Tony Williams and Alan Dawson, Fred Buda, Ed Soph and composition with Steve Grover. I have taught private lessons, small group ensembles, elemntary music theory, orchestral percussion and voice coaching. I have taught in public schools, private prep schools and college. I began teaching in 2001, as my touring schedule began to subside. I began visiting students in their homes, building a roster of over 40 weekly lessons that remained full with a waiting list. All students participated in many school bands, NYSSMA competitions (which I have also judged), and extra-curricular musical efforts, some have become professional, with several currently touring and recording nationally with original acts.   I love teaching all levels; the joy of introducing drumming to a new student is as satisfying as sharing afro-cuban poly-rhythmic ideas with an advance player. I teach my students to read drum music well enough that most of the younger ones end up playing in the school band.
