I am a very passionate drummer and have been playing guitar ever since 2005. I'm fluent in many different styles including punk/pop punk, hard rock, alternative rock, jazz, funk, trap, bubblegum pop, hyperpop, classic rock, and grunge. I have played in various bands over the years and have played some pretty large venues such as The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie. I feel that everyone is unique and has their own needs and I like to cater my lessons to each student’s needs. That being said, I like to let my students guide the direction we take in my lessons. We can work on beginner drum skills together, writing your own music, music theory, learning cover songs to play and much more! We can also change course at any moment as your needs change over time. I want to mention that I am a transgender female and I use she/her pronouns but this has no bearing on my ability to teach amazing lessons and I am one of the kindest and funniest people you'll ever meet! And it goes without saying that I am very accepting of LGBTQ clients!
My experience teaching drums dates back to 2007, when I was in a band and was teaching the bass player how to play the drums. I've never stopped teaching ever since! I also have a lot of experience working with people. I have a master's degree in social work and helping people in every capacity truly is my passion. My empathetic nature means I can be really tuned into your needs as a drummer and tuned into how I can help you reach your goals. I welcome students of all ages and skill levels.
We start with the basics like how to hold the drum sticks, how to read music, and how to start playing some simple basic beats. Then things become more tailored to the specific drumming needs. For example, if you are trying to learn the drums for a jazz ensemble, we can practice jazz songs together. On the other hand, if you are in a punk band we could start learning some covers and then I can teach you to write your own punk songs! Due to my social work background, self care is something I respect very much and if you need a day to take care of your physical or mental health, that's okay as long as you contact me before the lesson to let me know!
My teaching style focuses on meeting you where you're at and helping you grow into the exact type of drummer that you want to be. I am also well versed in music theory and music history, including rock and pop history and I believe that exploring these things along with the lessons can be so helpful! I respect all students moving at their own pace. If you are struggling with something in between lessons, you can contact me and I will try to respond as soon as possible to help guide you through the exercise.
