During my internship with Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Center  and volunteer work with The Cavalier Music Enrichment Program (both based in Baltimore, Maryland), I have taught music to over 250 students. From general music theory to specific instruction in brass, woodwind, and percussion techniques; I have had the privilege to work with students of various ages, spanning from sixth graders to college students. I graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Performance, earning the music department's Outstanding Achievement in Music Award in 1991. From 1994-1997 I taught applied and ensemble percussion at Shepherd University and, since then, have developed a successful private teaching practice in the Baltimore/Washington area. Many of my students have achieved success at the county, state and professional levels. I tend to start with any grip/technique issues and then expand on the student's vocabulary, building on what already feels comfortable to them. I began teaching full-time in 1995. I started my home studio in 2014. With my teaching style, I try to maintain open lines of communication as much as possible. This means learning about students, them learning about me, and feeling comfortable in communicating their roadblocks in music. Music is an expressive art form, and I believe that being able to effectively communicate with students will lead to a better instruction - students feel more comfortable performing and explaining issues, and teachers can cater to the learning styles of those students, which expedites the learning process and creativity.
