Overview:
I am a compassionate and nurturing teacher and mentor who loves to work with students to share my love for music. I am patient and dedicated to challenging my students to grow independently to become better musicians and take pride in their hard work and dedication. I have played and studied piano and drums for nearly 30 years and have been teaching for 15 years. I studied music myself privately with a plethora of great teachers and musicians I have performed with many different musicians and bands throughout my career.
EXPERIENCE
I have played and studied piano and drums for nearly 30 years and have been teaching for 20 years. I have performed with many different musicians and bands throughout my career. Specifically, I have taught and continue to teach in homes, studios, community based outreach organizations, as well as behavioral health facilities and other institutions. Engendering and instilling focus discipline and a fun loving attitude towards practice and performing is important to me as I utilize the many years of practice and performance to pass on the trade to the next generation of aspiring musicians.
METHODS USED
My teaching methodology is catered to each unique student based on age, level of musicianship, specific interests, and learning style/personality. lessons are designed to enhance students learning process and progress in order to help students develop over all self confidence. The lessons are created to help develop skills in reading notation, developing the proper technique, interactive improvisation and overall ability to play music in any performance setting with other musicians in a creative collective.
LESSON STYLE
My goal is to get students to appreciate the joy of actually practicing and performing music so that they enjoy becoming better musicians overall Practice can be time consuming take a lot of patience and perseverance. I strive to make sure practice methods are productive and enjoyable at the same time. I encourage students to practice concepts that play on their strengths and weaknesses in order to nurture self confident individuals. Consequently, the main goal is for the student to master musicianship skills to be able to adapt and excel in any performance situation.
