Hello, my name is Patrick. I am a professional drummer, percussionist and educator in the Boston Metro area. I received a B.A. in History from Loyola University in New Orleans (class of '08). I believe I am unique musically, in the sense that my passion for performing is rivaled equally by my passion for teaching. I love to share what it is that I have spent the majority of my life honing, and working on; in fact I feel that it is my responsibility as a contemporary musician to relay all the good things I have learned on to others within mine and the next generation of musicians. I teach students how to play, as well as, read music. I teach a variety of techniques and styles of music using books and making up lessons for my students. I teach my students at any age how to play the set, along with snare drum techniques, and play with songs. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Vic Firth books. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more complicated styles and techniques that are appropriate for their ability. Read More

My teaching style is much different than most schools. I have taken lessons my whole entire life and I decided to make a change. Parents will recieve a professional audio recoding of each lesson so they can hear what their child is working on. We offer recitals every month so student can showcase their talents to family and friends. This is crucial for students to perform so they can understand and feel the satisaction of performing music. After seeing an unforgettable performance by the Blue Man Group, I became inspired to start playing the drums at 10 years old. I participated in every school ensemble possible throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school including jazz band, marching band, pit orchestra, jazz combo, concert band, and a blues/rock band outside of school that regularly performed around southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. Since 2008, I have performed live on over 200 occasions around the mid Atlantic and New England regions. In 2014, I graduated from Berklee College of Music summa cum laude with focuses on Music Business and Drum Set Performance.I currently play drums with Vitamin Sun, a progressive/alternative/indie band located in Boston, and GEPH, a progressive/metal/jazz instrumental trio also located in Boston. My lessons for vocalists are divided into two sections: technique and repertoire. For singers, breath management skills are of primary importance as this directly affects intonation. I like to begin with Anne Peckham's The Contemporary Singer. My students can choose any songs they would like to sing while we work on musicianship skills including expression and lyrical phrasing. Singers who want to study jazz and improvisation use one or more of my pedagogical texts on scat singing. Read More

I've had a lot of opportunities to sort my teaching out. I realize that if the student doesn't get it, it may be that I'm not putting it across effectively. So I had better try to slow things down or speed them up, model rather than explain, or vice versa! And always try smarter before trying harder, even though harder may be the right approach. Because in addition to teaching music I'm teaching approaches to learning. Read More
