  I am currently about to complete my undergraduate degree at Wheaton College in Norton, MA.  During my freshman year, I auditioned for and was accepted into the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.  With this ensemble, I gained extensive training as a touring cellist in a large orchestra.  We perfomed regularly in Symphony Hall Boston, Sander's Theatre Harvard, a tour to Carnegie Hall (reviewed by the NY Times and turned into a live recording for sale), as well as a tour to The Netherlands in June 2013 where we played in 5 cities culminating in a performance in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. My teaching experience is quite varied, with ages and subject material. My earliest teaching experiences were mentorship programs in my local youth symphonies as a high schooler, and since then I've taught in before and after-school programs, private and group lessons, orchestra sectionals, chamber music, and classroom ear training. Through my experience in teaching and chamber music, I really try to curtail expectations and goals to a student's individual wants from music making, so that students can feel proportionally challenged and confident to the amount of time they'd like to put in. Teaching should never revolve around the notion that "perfection" is the ultimate" goal. This way of thinking not only provides my students with a false sense of hope, but more importantly is simply unattainable. In the modern age of playing, too often do I feel students losing sight of what is most important: the music. While good intonation and rhythm are certainly important, what I hope to instill in each of my students is a level of understanding far beyond learning the "notes" on the page. Read More

My range provided me with the ability to read nearly any piece of music on sight, an ability I eventually took the oceans as a Pianist for Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. I performed with guest entertainers, in Jazz sets and in Production shows in over 24 countries. I have maintained a private studio since early in my undergraduate degree (6 years ago). With beginning students, I use exercises from Suzuki and Essential Elements books as a basis for note reading, but I also frequently use "echo" or "call-and-response" playing. I find this is especially important in developing a student's ear for pitch and tone early on. As a student progresses and their musical interests develop, I combine standard classical repertoire that I grew up playing with song transcriptions of film, jazz, and rock music formatted to match each student's ability level and current technical goals.
