Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I believe the most important goal in learning to sing is to use a healthy tone production free of tension. This is true no matter what style of music the student wants to learn. I use my own exercises, written on manuscript paper that is tailored to the students needs, but always includes exercises for breathe control, relaxation and proper resonance. However, I tended to play everyones mom and grandmother because my voice sounded too mature and operatic. In my Freshman year of high school, I began voice lessons with my teacher and mentor, Paula Brown, who happened to be an Operatic Lyric Coloratura. Slowly, she began to introduce me to the fascinating, challenging and rewarding world of Classical Music and Opera and I washooked. I will encourage and try new ways to explain or demonstrate a skill that the student is having difficulty with and I will be extremely enthusiastic about their accomplishments.
