For beginning adult piano students, I use Alfred's Adult PIano Method. For the more advanced students, music is typically chosen from a variety of sources, so that the student is playing music that is challenging and enjoyable. Each student is unique in their own way, from how they learn to how they produce an end product. But one thing I stress in my teaching with all students is demonstration, imitation and repetition. The old adage that says, "practice makes perfect", is not always right. If the student is practice wrong, they will perform it wrong. I believe its my responsibility to demonstrate how it is done right so they can imitate it right and make sure that they are repeating it correctly. Read More

Although my instruction, guidance, and expertise in my field will most assuredly contribute to the growth of my students, ultimately, the extent to which a student succeeds and flourishes is contingent upon their willingness and dedication to practice outside of the lessons. I generally expect my student to record each lesson as reinforcement of the techniques, vocalizes, warm-ups, etc. studied in each lesson. This also allows the students note their progress over time.
