Hello! I'm a vocal instructor with 10+ years of experience at the college level, but have taught all voice types and a large range of ages! I enjoy teaching all types of repertoire and have expertise in classical literature and musical theater. I began my studies as a musical theater major and then transitioned into classical music, specifically as a mezzo-soprano opera singer! My approach to singing comes from yoga. I begin every single lesson with about 2-5 minutes of breathing exercises that stem from yoga practices. As humans, the first thing that we do before we make any kind of a sound is breathe. I believe that understanding your own breathing mechanism will give you your most honest, authentic, healthy, and full sound. I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I also incorporate various learning by doing exercises, a lot of breath work and visualization, vocal drills are also key. Read More

I always want to make sure my students can apply what they learn in my lessons to their participation in their actual choirs. If a student is preparing for a PMEA Choir audition, I will help them prepare the repertoire as well as provide a mock audition. If they sing in a church choir, we will work on sight singing hymns as well as working on any difficult literature. If they simply want to learn more about music theory, I will focus on that.
