I tailor to the desire/ ability level of each student accordingly. Depending on how hard a student is willing to work, I conduct the lessons in an appropriate matter. Genres , artist etc. I believe as an artist you should make your own choices and see for yourself what kind of singer you want to be. That starts with the choice of song you choice then we can work our way up to learning it and perfecting it. I enjoy watching students progress and improve. It brings joy to them and myself. Playing guitar or bass for me is a form of art therapy/meditation. It's a place where one can lose themselves and activate/stimulate the brain unlike any other engagement as the brain is simultaneously multi-tasking when playing an instrument. I make it a point to ask all students (or parents for my younger ones) to purchase a notepad where assignments, expectations, exercises, tips/tricks can be written down to help them progress during the year and into the following week of lessons. My favorite aspect about teaching is pushing students beyond the limit they place for themselves. That being said there must be a mutual understanding that I will do all I can to help students get over a "learning hump" as I call it- I have access to a plethora of journals, articles, teaching websites, a personal library, all of these materials can be scanned, printed out, emailed and whatnot for the benefit of my students.
