Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For voice students, I teach technique, do breathing and vocal exercises, and work on songs. I teach basic music reading, interpretation of songs, as well as good techique and diction. Beginning students who are children are introduced to the joy of music not just by singing songs, but in a course that teaches music literacy, vocal technique, and ear training as well. Most importantly, we are having fun while taking this journey. As for older teens and adults, I discover what interests the student and guide my instruction accordingly. We typically spend the first 30 minutes working technique exercises; this includes focusing on body awareness, the movement of breath, and core of the sound. Read More
