Ive been teaching voice for over 5 years. My students ages range from 10 to 80 and they are In different levels and have different goals/interests. Although Im classically trained and I have many students following a classical path, using the bel canto technique, Im able to provide the student with tools to sing any genre, and for that I use a Cross Training technique, which embraces classical and vernacular styles, such as pop, rock, musical theater, Brazilian music (like samba and bossa nova). For beginning students who are children, I greatly emphasize vocal exercises to help strengthen their voice. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire based on the genre of music they prefer, as well as basic songs that would benefit them to learn. No matter the ability level, fundamentals are of the utmost importance. Having a wide range of repertoire is also helpful learning different styles helps a student become more versatile. Read More

Today I have private voice students in New York and Colombia, in person and also online. I'm always looking for better methods that will help my students in their path and thats why I constantly investigate books and new styles. Together my students and I are motivated to prepare their recitals and competitions for school or other bigger challenges. I love to help them be the best they can be. Read More

I've been teaching public school for 19 years, all but the first two spent in 9th grade. I've also had many years of experience as an adult church choir director. The huge majority of my singers along the way would probably tell you that I made them very comfortable. Tension is the singer's worst enemy. Tension is caused by fear, by uncertainty in one's ability, or by faulty technique. A great singer makes singing seem easy. Read More

I like to work with students individually for their own goals and skill level. For younger students, we work on msuciality and basics of singing through devleopmentally appropriate (and fun!) songs. Regardless of the student's level, each lesson contains singing repertoire, vocal exercises to work on technique, and musicianship skills. The combination of these elements will depend entirely on the student's needs and desires! At the consultation lesson, I will provide a written assessment of where I see the student progressing and propose a plan to reach the students stated goals, focusing always on the process of individual development. I have taken several courses in different music pedagogy and techniques as well as genres of music. Using the knowledge from these courses I have been enabled to form my philosophy of teaching to incorporate different teaching styles to help my students. I feel that the main prupose of these lessons is to aid the students in their needs and wants whether it is understanding certain parts of music theory, techniques, or just understanding the basics with a piece of music. Also, my students feel that they are able to come into a lesson with some ideas about what they want to get out of lesson while including my thoughts on what they need to work on. Read More
