My goal as a teacher is to avoid any type of dogmatic "one size fits all" curriculum.  I always want to know what music the student enjoys and build my lesson plans based on their tastes.  Chords can be physically challenging for beginners so I like to work with single-note melodies early on so that the student isn't quickly discouraged.  Learning chords becomes the medium-term goal.  As for the long-term, I will then use specific songs as examples for how music theory works in the context of their favorite bands. I'm a professional jazz guitarist for 30 years and have performed, recorded and toured with many outstanding musicians including Bill Carrothers, Dave King, Michael Lewis, Daniel Carter, Sean Wayland, Matthias Bublath, Willie Wisely, Mark Ledford, Funky Town Studios and TROMA Films. I received my BFA from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis studying with award-winning composer Judith Lang-Zaimont and passionately pursuing jazz and classical guitar performance.
Since I was 19, I have established myself as a dynamic, hard-working musician who offers a highly creative style, deep love of music, and an unwavering commitment to improve the quality my music and teaching abilities. Read More

I have played guitar for 15 years and enjoy sharing my love and passion for music with others. I previously taught in the classroom and now enjoy pursuing my music career fulltime and teaching parttime. If you have a song you want to learn, I would be happy to work that into your lesson plan. If you are brand new to guitar, I would be happy to show you the basics so that you have a solid foundation. Read More

I create my own lesson plans based off of the individual student. For voice students, we usually warm up, do technical exercises working on varying registers and techniques, and then work on repertoire. I often find the passages in a particular song that the student is struggling with and focus in on those, finding exercises to guide the student. For instrumental students, I work on a lot of music theory and reading, for students of all levels and ages. Read More

I have been steadily teaching private lessons since I was at Berklee, nearly 10 years ago. I almost always have taught lessons at my own studio where students come to me because that always seems to be the most conducive environment for learning and getting inspired. I've taught complete beginners at the toddler age, and even retired people in their 70s. I enjoy teaching because each student has different needs, different interests, and most importantly digest and internalize new information differently. Read More

My methods are non-traditional for some students and traditional for others. Each person learns differently and needs different methods to achieve their goals. I have used Essential Methods books, Jump Right In books, and others that I have found in my studies as a music teacher. I believe music is learned in many different ways, by ear, by reading, and by playing. We learn to talk by talking and being surrounded by those who talk. Read More

I began teaching my younger brothers to play guitar almost since I started learning myself. Professionally, I've worked for Curtain Call in Stamford, CT to help run their Summer Youth drama program. I also directed, music directed, and choreographed the musicals at Trinity Catholic Middle School for two years. Privately, I've worked at the Schule of Music, instructing young children in guitar lessons. I believe that the drive for learning must come from the student and I'm simply their to encourage their passions and give them the knowledge and resources to achieve their own ideas. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
