For five years prior to moving to the city in 2017, I taught choir one of Iowa's largest and most diverse high schools, where I also served as the competition musical theatre coach. Additionally, I have been a voice teacher for 8 years in total, with students rising to high levels of success in state, university/college, and regional singing competitions. When time allowed, I performed in numerous regional plays and musicals, as soloist for professional choral/orchestral ensembles in the area, and often served as music director and vocal coach for university, community, and high school productions. I'm a very optimistic person. I like to inspire my students, and watch them have fun and grow! Lessons should be a fun thing to look forward to. As a kid, I had many lessons and teachers that I did not enjoy going to, and I don't want that to be the case for my lessons. I work with the student and their needs. I don't want to jump too far ahead or go to slow , so I work with the student and figure out their speed to determine where we go each and every lesson. I believe in being honest with how you are feeling in that moment and encourage my students to utile those emotions for singing. I work with the student to make realistic goals but will push the students further and harder unless they tell me to bring it down. Read More

My approach to teaching is holistic, drawing on a strong background in vocal pedagogy and music education. Teaching voice, piano, and other music related lessons is a position I honor, balancing the technical, musical, and personal goals of each student and making assessments of what to address first.
