My name is Jahnvi and I am currently earning my bachelor's degree in Music Education at New York University. I have been teaching private lessons for 3 years now, specializing in voice, piano, and music theory. I grew up singing musical theatre, pop, jazz, classical, and classical Hindustani music from India. My passion for singing soon developed into a passion for instrumental music as I picked up clarinet, flute, piano, and guitar. Read More

My music pedagogy is influenced by Zoltan Kodaly, mile Jaques-Dalcroze, Edwin Gordon, and Carl Orff. For teaching violin, while I employ elements of the Suzuki Method, Strictly Strings, and Metodo Nicolo Violin to instill discipline and establish ,precision, I set up a lively, interdisciplinary, and creative environment by incorporating calisthenics, games, dancing, singing, and storytelling to encourage versatility and innovation. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time at various studios and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the past 6 years. I like to emphasize a consistent schedule of practice, so that this helps the student progress in their studies. I have also found that by combining styles of classical and modern music can help the student gain a better understanding of their instrument. Read More

Additionally, I teach private voice lessons to students ages 12 adult. I do not stick to one method or style of teaching as each student is different. A twelve-year-old student who wants to write songs, and sing Taylor Swift, will need a very different approach than a fifty-year-old opera singer. However, I do implement two very important key points in my teaching: Honesty and health. This is done by first making sure the artist (I prefer to refer to my students as artists as a sign of respect, and because I’m learning from them as well) has proper technique. Read More

A vital part of developing voice repertoire is exploring various interests and styles. I encourage all vocalists to choose songs that they will enjoy singing, but I will guide my students in exploring any realm otherwise not explored. I encourage healthy singing and practicing techniques that will ensure productive rehearsal without fear of vocal damage. A professor of mine used to always say, "there is no singing without acting", and I ensure that when a student sings a song, they will not only know how to sing properly, but they will also have a deep understanding of what they are singing about and how to convey the message.
