My first lesson is always focused on the student's goals. We will discuss background and interest in music. I will test range via keyboard and show activities concerning different diction exercises and breathing techniques. Every student has different learning needs and I tailor my lesson pace around them. Each student gets the same messages but delivery and pace will differ depending on the student's needs. I also may give out some "homework". Read More

Hello! I'm a singer, songwriter, and music teacher from Brooklyn, NY. My studio is a place to sound bad. It's a place to make as many mistakes as possible. Your voice may crack, you may hate the way it sounds in your head, but good practice involves failure. If you are in my studio, you are here to work. Practice is not necessarily fun. Everyone wants to leave their first lesson belting for the rafters, but we won't go there until you're ready- it might only ingrain poor habits and set you up for failure down the road. Read More

For my younger piano students, I am a fan of the Faber and Faber piano books. The method books applies to my philosphy of teaching rhythm in syllables (ta, ti-ti, etc.) and found success with all my students in their abilty to read notes and play well. I also love their arrangements on their jazz, rock and roll, and popular series. I also try to include composition in their learning to make it fun and challenging. Read More

My approach/style to teaching is quite straight forward. My first question is often how long has the student been studying. Does he/she play another instrument? What kind of music would they like to learn? Are they taking lessons for pleasure? If they are beginners or at an intermediate level; are they taking lessons to become professional singers? Whatever the reason, it gives me great joy to see 'the expression of wonder' when a student achieves his/her goals. Read More
