Through my collaborations, I'm able to connect with other artists's forms of expression. While teaching, I strive to inspire my students to appreciate how amazing music is for understanding life and for relating with others. Lastly, music has given me a way to be involved in other artistic mediums. My projects have included writing music for a play at the Province Town Tennessee Williams Theatre Festival, writing music for dance in the Rubin museum in NY, and writing music for an award winning Argentinian documentary. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I'd like to find out what my students are listening to and craft lesson around the music. Read More

During the work process students work on individual song interpretation/presentation and on individual improvisation (if the student is interested). Read More

Principally a stage performer, I've been teaching for about 5 years, beginning with a Master Class on Song Performance at the Shakespeare Theater Company. I've given individual lessons for about 2 years (professionally), specializing in musical theater and acting, helping young performers learn what I wish I had at their stage of career. These days, that often means translating years of theatrical training into on-camera audition technique (a specialty of mine). Should I be lucky enough to teach you, you'll hear the words "breath," "management," "stillness," "grounded," sometimes hyphenated with one another. Read More

For beginning students, I start with a method book that provides them with both aural, visual, and kinesthetic instruction. In addition, I work with my students to develop a curriculum that is high individualized and caters to their needs and, more importantly, their interests. For intermediate and advanced students, I focus on repertoire, etudes, and coordination studies, in order to build technique while learning the standard repertoire pieces. All of my lessons are student directed, and thus each lesson is unique. Read More

With all students I put a lot of emphasis on leaning how to learn. I believe that by, for instance, teaching students how to make good use of their practice time (being productively self-critical) and processing information in an intuitive way, drastically expedites musical development and profoundly affect brain development. Much of this intuitive practice has to do with internalizing information such as music theory or recordings to the point that they become second nature much like a language. Read More
