Overview:

My name is Nathan and I am a composer and pianist. I graduated with a B.A recently from the Juilliard School and am excited to be a part of Musika. I am deeply passionate about many styles of music and have been performing and making music for almost my entire life. I have experience in Jazz, pop, classical, folk, and electronic music and love to blend styles and explore new realms of music. I’ve performed and had works of mine performed in Europe and the United States and am excited to share my experiences in music with students and start them on their own!

EXPERIENCE

I have taught students of all ages and skills privately for over 8 years. From college level courses to basic piano lessons for young children, I have had experience with all kinds of students and am able to format my teaching accordingly. I begin from what the student already knows, hone in on their individual interest and goals, and craft a tailored lesson plan that is guaranteed to be inspiring and yield fulfilling results. My final goal is to instill a love of music and improve skills students need to express themeselves to their greatest potential.

METHODS USED

For younger children I typically begin with the Alfred Piano Lessons series as I find the songs very accessible, catchy, and the format of the book to be engagaing for kids. The series is also very suited to a complete beginner in its introduction of new concepts and will have the child already playing songs by the end of the first lesson. For older students I will skip over easy material in an effort to simply fill in the gaps of what they already know or can learn quickly and focus on moving them more into music they are interested in playing.

LESSON STYLE

Above all, I want to see my students develop the kind of love for music that can foster and sustain a life of appreciation and self expression. I enjoy seeing my students grow into their artistic selves and pursue their own musical interests with their newly aquired skills. Following my students musical tastes is a great way to motivate and encourage them while instilling the technical training they need to be great musicians. I encourage all my students to try creating their own compositions and songs and to perform in recitals or for friends so that they can reap the full benefits of playing piano and gain confidence as musicians.
