My teaching style really focuses around developing a love for your instrument. If the student loves their instrument and the music that is written for their instrument, they will feel encouraged to practice. I try to pick up on the student's personality and learning styles and make each person's lesson a combination of my teaching styles and what works best for the student. Once we find the routine and groove that works for the both the student and myself, then the learning should come along easily and fun. Read More

I first started teaching in the 1990s, in Boston, MA., both privately, and at Berklee College of Music. Since moving to Sarasota, I've taught voice/chorus at Out Of Door Academy and IMG Academy. I've thoroughly enjoyed working with students who are motivated to learn and grow, sing for their personal pleasure, and/or with professional goals in mind. I like to instill joy as well as self discipline. Being from Montreal, I speak English and French fluently, as well as other languages, and love teaching people of every age and cultual background. Most problems beginning and advanced can be worked on in song prep. Example for advanced singers looking to improve belt range, a shortcut is to improve the soprano/mix range and then go backwards twords the belt. No one believes this works until they do it. For beginners assigning the right material is the key. It needs to be something they choose to sing that is appropriate for their level. Read More

For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More

I’m always eager to meet new faces and enjoy sharing my gift with others who are passionate about learning music. I have never liked the dreaded term "homework". So what I like to tell my students to encourage them to achieve the most success they can, is to simply go home and "practice" because practice makes perfect. I feel that learning any instrument is similar to learning a foreign language. Read More
