Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. It's important that each of my students progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More

My teaching style is why my students do well - it's because I tailor the lesson to each individual student. I want students to feel progress with each lesson. I truly never want to leave a lesson without seeing a student progress. My style is laid-back and incorporates multiple different tips that have proven effective in teaching new piano players. It is so vital to the student’s success to enjoy the lesson plan. I start beginners with the basic fundamentals, learning chord progression, and the anatomy of the guitar, utilizing a wealth of friendly user print outs such as chords, scales, blank guitar necks, etc. Adult learners need positive reinforcement and encouragement as well, helping them to overcome barriers in their thinking, listening to them as to their goals, and marking out a clearly defined objective for the learning experience.
