I began teaching private music lessons during my college days. I was taking music education classes along with my performance degrees and the combination of the classes made me feel like i could teach lessons in a new and innovative way. A big focus in my curriculum is music theory. Music theory is such an important backbone to learning your instrument. I feel very confident that students will feel a complete understanding of the pieces they work on, because of the emphasis we put on theory. Read More

Despite having had classical piano training via Trinity College of Music and the Royal Schools of Music at an early age, I have always appreciated music of every genre. So as a child I took the responsibility of learning to play other styles on my own. It quickly became obvious not only to me but to my fellow classical students that I had a huge advantage over all the other students in the real music world, because I could appeal to a much wider audience. I typically use a combination of Suzuki and Essential Elements for beginner students. I worked extensively with the widow of the author of Essential Elements, and I understand how to implement the strategies for optimal success. For intermediate students, I typically use a combination of Suzuki, scale books, and etude books. to ensure success. My main goal is to continue to build a good foundation for more advanced musical endeavors. Read More
Instruments: Flute
My teaching experience goes back to my high school days when I taught flute, clarinet, and saxophone to beginning students. I "taught" my way through music college at a busy studio in the Philadelphia area, and always had a waiting list - from novice, to intermediate and advanced, to adult students. Upon graduation, I was hired by the college to teach flute, saxophone, and music theory, which I did for over 10 years, in conjunction with a busy performance schedule. Read More

I always teach proper technique, music reading, and eventually some music theory. If a student is just beginning, they need a method book to track their progress. I usually use Hal Leanord's guitar method. Besides this book, there should be a blank manuscript booklet for any extracurricular songs or concepts that aren't included in the book. Weekly lessons are ideal for building on the fundamentals, as any longer, the student may be memorizing bad habits or forget the proper way to play. Read More
