Students can expect to have structured lessons that incorporate technique exercises, rhythmic foundations, music theory, and repetoire that is appropriate for their age and ability. For students who are young children, I typically start by addressing the importance of playing what you hear. So, I will teach them beginner classics, such as Twinkle Twinkle and Merry had a Littl eLamb, but I also teach them what thunder sounds like, or a siren, and etc. by drawing on everyday life obejects that create noise. I then move on to learn my student's interests to device a method of positive reinforcement if they complete their homework asssignments or answer questions correctly, usually in the past this has been candy. I have been teaching private lessons at Northside Christian School for almost 2 full years at this point, and have been helping out during marching band season every year since 2017. During the first part of 2021, I have also substituted for jazz instructor during the school year of Tarpon Springs High School, and while there I have taught more students on jazz improvisation as well as fundamentals on the trombone.
