I am a graduate of LIU Post who holds a Bachelors of Music in Music Education, Trombone Studies. During my time at LIU, I spent time taking lessons in clarinet, tuba, baritone horn/euphonium, piano, and trumpet. I am currently a Chorus/General Music teacher in Roosevelt. In addition to my day time job, I have maintained a small low brass studio but am looking to expand. Also I try to understand their objective of learning music, what they wish to gain. As I teach students, I constantly change my approaches depending on the needs of my students. I encourage my students to practice and think about how to approach new materials to make it less frustrating for my students. In addition, I use familiar melodies which includes classical and modern selections to help support the learning. I have been teaching voice for almost 20 years now. I have found that it doesn't matter the age if you have a love of singing then you can learn. I have had many students and it's so much fun to watch them learn and grow and find out that everyone has a voice and is capable of singing. Each student is a bit different and part of the fun is learning how to help them move forward whether through vocal exercises, ear training, learning how to breathe or just giving them the confidence they need to sing out loud. I create my own lesson plans based off of the individual student. For voice students, we usually warm up, do technical exercises working on varying registers and techniques, and then work on repertoire. I often find the passages in a particular song that the student is struggling with and focus in on those, finding exercises to guide the student.
