Beginning students who are children are introduced to the joy of music not just by singing songs, but in a course that teaches music literacy, vocal technique, and ear training as well. Most importantly, we are having fun while taking this journey. As for older teens and adults, I discover what interests the student and guide my instruction accordingly. I had my first ever voice student in my sophomore year of college. Because of my busy schedule and her distance from me, we met for our lessons on FaceTime. As a young teacher, I believed that giving her lessons would give me some great experience, as well as help her to improve her voice. Through these classes I learned both about the pedagogy of healthy singing and of productive teaching. I truly believe that having a good classical foundation will take a student far.
