I began teaching private music lessons in college in 2003. I have been teaching lessons consistently for the last 10 years from my home studio, online, as well as traveling to the students' home. I find great pleasure in hearing a student's progress, that's why I encourage recording their practice and having a consistent practice schedule. I feel it is important to give positive reinforcement and feedback to students. I am always excited to bring on new students of many different age groups! I believe it is important to keep the lesson interesting to the student by incorporating music for technique but also songs that the student enjoys playing. I started out teaching group sessions for local singers in Southern California at no cost for 4 years starting in 2013. Eventually, students from the group classes started to seek me out for individual lessons and I was also invited to be the lead vocal coach for a singing competition called ETTV Top Stars held by ETTV America in 2017 as well as 2019. For piano, I typically start with Hannon's piano exercises, and then move on to repertoire which highlights specific technical challenges, such as crossed hands or mixed meter. Since I'm focusing on voice lessons, I work with all students on being aware of their breathing. Having the right breathing patterns (since there are many varieties) is what can give you the edge and really bring out the best voice inside of you. I believe it is important to build a strong technical foundation and knowledge of the mechanics of the voice, while also focusing on performance and real-world musicianship. With contemporary music theory (beginning to advanced) integrated into each lesson, students learn to understand and apply a musical vocabulary that is necessary to communicate in the industry. As a vocalist myself, I think too often singers have trouble communicating with their bands in a rehearsal setting or with producers and engineers in a recording setting; therefor I see the benefit in students being able to identify the grooves and "feels" of their selected pieces as well as being able to count-in a band.
