I am a motivated instructor who's passionate about music and sharing my gifts and knowledge with others. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2009 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition and Vocal Performance. I have had the pleasure of performing in Africa, Spain, Costa Rica, the UK, Canada as well as many other locations as a professional trumpet player, piano player, and vocalist. My latest accomplishment was being asked by the Grammy Award winning group Train to go on their summer world tour in 2012. In 2016 I performed in the Superbowl halftime show with Beyonce. 2017 I performed with Solange Knowles in the Afropunk festival. 2018-2019 went on world tour with Janelle Monáe. 2019 performed at the Grammy Awards with Janelle Monáe. Much more to come
I began teaching private music lessons in college in 2003. I have been teaching lessons consistently for the last 5 years both from my home studio as well as traveling to the students' home. I find great pleasure in hearing a student's progress, that's why I encourage recording their practice and having a consistent practice schedule. I feel it is important to give positive reinforcement and feedback to students. I am always excited to bring on new students of many different age groups!
For the younger beginning students, I usually start with Alfred's Beginning Piano Series. Once the student has a grasp of the fundementals, I will begin introducing major and minor scales as well as solo repertoire. For my adult students I will see their level of ability and musical interests, find appropriate material based on their taste and formulate the lesson to include fun stuff as well as build proper mechanics. For my horn lessons depending on the skill level I being with Essential Elements or the Arban book.
Finding out what inspires the student helps me to construct my instruction to their needs. It is important to understand that each student has their own progression. I make sure to always set realistic goals for my students at each lesson and to acknowledge their accomplishments. This often encourages and excites the student to continue in their progression!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
