Music and teaching it to others has been my life's work and passion. I am classically trained (obviously) and I am the first and still only person in my family to graduate from a four year college and later graduate school, having earned BM and MM degrees in Piano Performance with a minor in organ at Shenandoah University. In addition to 27 years of music ministry, 26 years as an accompanist and/or MD (classical and music theatre settings) and of course 16 years of private piano teaching, my greatest professional accomplishment is having played at Carnegie Hall in June 2014. I started teaching private students for years when I graduated. When I moved to New York I moved to teaching in schools, namely Dr. Trogans School of Music and Bennette Music School over a period of at least 10 years. Now I continue to teach privately in Florida. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I am new to Florida (which I love, by the way!) but spent many years teaching singers in middle and high school as well as adults with the Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice (opera) in NYS. My greatest performance memories include singing in the backup chorus for tenor Andrea Bocelli (for 20,000 screaming fans!), as well as Barry Manilow, Scotty McCreery, Josh Groban, Aretha Franklin, Reba and the legendary Yolanda Adams for "A Capitol Fourth" live on PBS for their 4th of July celebrations in Washington, DC. I like to find out what my student's goals are, and then I tailor the lessons to their needs. If my student is in high school and wants to apply to University for voice performance, I will make sure they start with the 26 Italian Arias, and we will also work on languages, since certain Universities require their singers to sing in French, Italian, German, English, and Spanish. If I have a student who wants to sing in musicals, we will work on show tunes and classic music theater music, but also classical music, as that is the foundation to all singing. Read More

I started playing the violin in 7th grade. It was a struggle for me to learn the instrument and how to read music, until I started taking lessons. I was taught using the Suzuki method and have used it to teach all of my students ever since. I was inspired by a best friend to pick up guitar and learned to play as best as I could without a teacher. Read More

It is so vital to the student’s success to enjoy the lesson plan. I start beginners with the basic fundamentals, learning chord progression, and the anatomy of the guitar, utilizing a wealth of friendly user print outs such as chords, scales, blank guitar necks, etc. Adult learners need positive reinforcement and encouragement as well, helping them to overcome barriers in their thinking, listening to them as to their goals, and marking out a clearly defined objective for the learning experience. The most important thing for me when it comes to teaching is knowing that my student is progressing but also enjoying their experience overall, another very important factor is overall retention of the information. Every person is different so there is really no cut and dry method of teaching, keeping this in mind the experience for everyone should be unique in a way. By setting routines together Im sure we could come to an agreement on how we could both help each other achieve our goals and succeed. Read More
