My teaching experience started in Graduate school, at Indiana University. I taught voice lessons to a violin major who was interested in taking voice lessons on the side. Since then, I've maintained a voice studio from my home and remotely, as I've traveled and moved around the country for singing work. I've been based in Tampa, FL now for close to seven years, and was teaching voice lessons via Face-time and Zoom from 2020-2021, and then also began in-person lessons from my home after Fall of 2021. I think real-world application is the most important part of any educational curriculum. No matter the subject or the age/experience of the student, I begin with the traditional structures taught by universities and personalize the curriculum based on my students' learning/application goals--i.e. to teach, perform, or compose professionally/as a hobby in different formats/genres. In group teaching situations, I ensure a wide variety of approaches to each subject and encourage students to choose the approach that works the best for them. Read More

My methods are based on life experience from studying with different teachers through out my career and being an AMDA graduate. I am very old school, meaning I expect them to memorize lyrics and lines, and understand what they are saying and why. I approach teaching as a teacher who still performs, and learned by doing it. I like the student to be old enough to read. I also encourage to tape their lesson for home study. Read More

The most important thing for me when it comes to teaching is knowing that my student is progressing but also enjoying their experience overall, another very important factor is overall retention of the information. Every person is different so there is really no cut and dry method of teaching, keeping this in mind the experience for everyone should be unique in a way. By setting routines together Im sure we could come to an agreement on how we could both help each other achieve our goals and succeed. Read More

My teaching methodology is centered on each student's needs, goals and age. Textbooks can be used when requested, but are not always necessary for every musical style/genre. Each student has different strengths and these must be assessed and reinforced in relation to the student's musical needs. I usually do this by first finding the student's range, vocal timbre, vocal production method, comfort zone and musical taste. Students may chose whether they prefer to learn western musical notation, music theory and Jazz/pop standards.I do recommend that each student learns basic notation and music theory. Read More

Lifetime musician with 10 years of teaching experience. I studied music performance at the University of South Florida, where I focused on flute as my primary instrument. I have also studied piano, strings, voice for over 2 decades. I have learned under many great music instructors, various members of the Florida Orchestra and also a direct student of Dr. Suzuki himself.
