Hey there! I'm a private voice and piano teacher, actor, and singer performing profressionally in both musical theatre and opera. I have both an undergraduate degree in Voice Performance from the University of Colorado (Boulder), and masters degrees in the same from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. All students will always have at least one piece that they have chosen to work on to keep interest while building skills. For adults I like to use Alfred's Basic Adult All-In-One Course. This has a site that can be accessed at home for extra help and accompaniments to play the songs learned. I add technique to adults to keep the fingers moving such as Hanon and Czerny. As early as I can recall, Ive loved teaching. Whether that meant being a teachers assistant or elementary school aide in my younger years, or as a music educator throughout and post-college. In high school, I was a Dance Captain for my schools competitive show choir, and would compose, arrange, and choreograph. While in college, I went to several music educators conferences, and was an active member of both the NAfME and IMEA (Indiana Music Educators Association.) Strong vocal development is rooted in an extensive understanding of healthy technique. Depending on the level and age of the student we will spend anywhere from a third to half of the lesson working on vocal exercises, which will aid in the student's foundation of developing a strong technical background. I have taught privately since 2006, though occasionally I will take two students from the same household, church or neighborhood and pair them up in what is known as a "partner lesson". Each person takes turns at the piano playing their respective scales, repertoire etc. and we offer one another encouragement as well as constructive criticism for those technical issues in need of improvement.
