From my experiences teaching in classroom settings, I have come to realize the importance of setting short and longer term learning goals for my students and adjusting these goals together with them as we work towards reaching these objectives. Sometimes the goals are very specific, like mastering a particular concept, or practicing towards a specific audition, and some, more general, like developing certain techniques which then need to be further explored and practiced by the student. We had keys, bass, 3 guitars, and a drum set. We called ourselves The Consultones because we worked in actuarial consulting. We played classic rock and pop hits for corporate events. At a wedding I played alongside a cello and violin. Accompanying classical music pieces. Read More

My goal is to foster and encourage a lifelong love of music and a passion for communication. To me, that means training studentsin the styles of music that each individual feels the most connected to, and then extending their knowledge and awareness to styles that they may not have as much experience with. I believe that an in depth study of music is, in essence, the study of communication. Training people to be thoughtful communicators gives them confidence, individuality, and an invaluable set of skills that can be applied to any future interest or career path. Read More

For Voice Students: I start each lesson with 10-15 minutes of vocal warm-ups and scales. The remainder of the lesson revolves around vocal pieces that either I think would be a good match for the voice, age, maturity, and ability of the student, or preparing a student for an audition or performance that they would like to perform a specific piece for. I also like to incorporate sight reading and ear training into my lessons, especially as the student grows into their voice. Read More
