For both voice and piano lessons, I always try to demonstrate the techniques I'd like students to learn to make sure they understand the correct way to practice. For both instruments, I use scales and chords for teaching, and I implement quite a bit of music theory in my piano lessons. Read More

While studying to complete my BA through Cal Poly Pomona, I have had the privilege of touring with Cal Poly Pomona's University Concert Choir for at least three years. I have been heavily involved with this choir for a total of 5 years, and I was appointed as Section Leader for the Sopranos for one term, which meant hard work and dedication almost paid off back then. This was the period of my gigging days because some of these tours were paid tours where all of singers were paid to perform around SoCal. Read More

My approach to singing comes from the Bel Canto school of singing. Bel Canto is Italian for beautiful singing and while I was trained this way, I believe in meeting students at their vocal level and build from there. I dont subscribe to the one size fits all method because we all perceive our voices very differently. I began teaching private music lessons in college in 2003. I have been teaching lessons consistently for the last 10 years from my home studio, online, as well as traveling to the students' home. I find great pleasure in hearing a student's progress, that's why I encourage recording their practice and having a consistent practice schedule. I feel it is important to give positive reinforcement and feedback to students. I am always excited to bring on new students of many different age groups! I believe it is important to keep the lesson interesting to the student by incorporating music for technique but also songs that the student enjoys playing. Having the right breathing patterns (since there are many varieties) is what can give you the edge and really bring out the best voice inside of you. Honestly, I mostly will give students recent pop songs that are good for the voice unless one is a stickler for classical songs, in which I sometimes use the 24 Italian Art Songs and Arias. I encourage my students to find and explain to me the techniques that are working for them once I have given any instruction. I want you to have a deep seeded understanding of the teachings which I am employing upon you. I will begin with basic music fundamentals for all my students and establish a scope of your knowledge and then move forward accordingly. For my piano students I will start with a beginning piano book and we will move forward as you progress. Read More
