I discovered my love of teaching in college when I was required to teach voice lessons as an assignment for my vocal pedagogy class. I was amazed at how fulfilling it was to share my knowledge and love of singing with my students. Since then, I have had the opportunity to teach singers of varying ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. While studying at University I started my band with my sister, Verdigrls. I am a big believer in the breath. For a beginner I do a lot of exercises with breath connection to encourage healthy, connected singing. I like the idea that the voice dances on the breath and is buoyed and protected by that technique. I am also a very physical teacher, encouraging students to use their whole body in the act of singing. The voice is carried by the whole body and not just the muscles that are the vocal chords. I am classically trained, so my teaching methods are in line with the classical method. For all beginner students, we work on breath control and tone to start before concentrating on song repertoire. Once the student is comfortable and producing good sound, we then start to look at material suited the student's voice.
