For beginning students who are children, I typically start the first day with allowing them to perform what they have learned prior so that I can see where their strengths and weaknesses are. Afterwards, I will work on their strengths so that they feel confident to tackle on their weaknesses. Once the student has progressed in fundamentals, I will advance them to solo repertoires appropriate for their performances. I typically create individualized plans for my vocal students, depending on their level. I focus on technique and ease of singing with proper breathing for support. I do visualization techniques to help achieve an increased range without strain. I incorporate music the student is interested in to maintain their interest and love of music. I started teaching in high school. I was a successful performer, so people started asking if I teach. I studied and took online classes to strengthen my musical and vocal knowledge as a 16-year-old. I started teaching and built a successful 20-person studio in California for two years. Because of my time at the Frost School of Music, I have built a studio in Miami as well. Nothing makes me happier than having the opportunity to share my love of music and guitar. Upon graduating from Skidmore College in 2000, I was accepted to Florida State University to the classical guitar program under the study of Bruce Holzman. I feel my decision to simultaneously work towards two masters degrees speaks clearly for my motivation and passion towards music. Students can learn and improve their skills through preparation and performing on stage at the beautiful recital hall. I have been teaching voice students from age 12 to adult.
