He was also a singer, dancer, and percussionist for Beat (La fiesta mondiale de percussion) which toured in casinos and venues across North America. He has also recorded and performed drums with many well-known artists in Canada. Among others, Matt was a member of the popular Montreal band Redcore (drums, composer, and vocals) and played drums with the up-and-coming Los Angeles-based bands U.G.L.Y (Chris Brown Entertainment), Standing Shadows, Erick Morillo, and CB7 (drums and back vocals) who just came back from opening for 30 Seconds To Mars on their US tour. I always begin by figuring out how I can best teach a student by asking them their interests and goals for singing; whether they want to sing jazz or provide vocals for their rock band, or learn to sing classically, etc. For all students who are atleast in their teens or older, I begin by describing how singing works and talk about the function of the body in singing. I usually use pictures from anatomy books to help point out the key organs and muscle groups that are engaged in healthy singing, so as to give a visual aid of what we are working to condition for singing. My teaching goal is to encourage my students to be lifelong patrons of the arts.  I understand that every student may not be interested in a career in music.  I encourage students to set goals and work toward them.  These goals may include a scholarship audition, playing a piece in front of a family member, or booking their first professional "gig." My main goal is to provide inspiration and inspire a student ( no matter what the starting place) to pick a 'first goal." I approach teaching by focusing on the student. I find out what they need and want first. We set realistic goals together and I give them the tools to help them reach their goals. I don't want my students to be entirely dependent on me. I like to give them exercises to do on their own in between lessons so that time doesn't go to waste and they can see quicker improvement with their own practicing. Read More

In my music degree, I gained the knowledge to supplement my teaching abilities. For example,my Senior thesis allowed me to analyzing liturgy and musical form. When singing in choirs,I observed teachers. This assisted me gain a vast knowledge of music, as well as procureperformance experience.Finally, all these experiences enabled me to gain the effective teaching skills to conduct acohesive group or lesson.
