For beginning piano students, I use the method books from Faber's Piano Adventures series. If the student gets bored with one method book, I will mostly likely top it off with something else from Alfred. I stress mostly on counting proper rhythm, learning alphabets, and finger numbers for early age groups. For intermediate students, I would expect students toalreadybe able to read music aside from the rhythm challenges. I will move on from where the student last left off from his/her former piano/voice teacher. Read More

I aim to create a safe and open space for students to try, make mistakes, and make progress in a supportive environment. We laugh, we consider, and we seriously make beautiful music happen, often very quickly. I like to carve each lesson for what my students need, and it has a fun, experimental element: special technical exercises for your voice, listening and repeating work-outs for breath and pitch, and even more specifics for your goals. Around the age of 15, after about five years of performing, I started teaching guitar lessons to kids around my community and discovered a love for sharing my musical knowledge with others. When I went on to college, I continued teaching individual students and in my sophomore year joined a volunteer teaching group called SLAM! Through this twelve-week program, I had the opportunity to lead a group class of fifteen underprivileged middle schoolers with little to no musical experience. Read More

There are two major philosophies I've uncovered when teaching lessons. 1. The use of descending lines to erase the "break" in ones voice. Early while studying, myself, I was taught to sing ascending, trying to maintain the same sound - this is defeating. Rather, bringing the top down is the "way to go." 2. Keeping the sound forward makes changing from one vowel to another quite easy and palpable. We generally begin by humming, getting vibrations away from the throat and into the front of the mouth. I am a very personable, friendly and goal oriented teacher. I am driven by my passion to help others reach their full potential. I know music and its ability to transform the human experience. I am creative and a problem solver and no vocal issue is impossible to address. When an issue presents itself, I determine to find a solution. I am very detail oriented but know when to take a step back and look at the big picture. Read More

My experience as a teacher dates back to my community college years, as I began teaching privately in 2013. Something I have learned over the years is that regular and consistent practice time is our best friend as musicians. Singing is a form of exercise and the more we repeat healthy vocal habits, the better we will sing. This is why I encourage all of my students to set some time aside to work on their voice and music. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
