Conservatorio de Música PR
Music has been my life for as far as I can remember, I took my first lesson when I was seven years old and I was hooked. I’ve been a Music performer for the past 18 years on my main instrument which is piano and I’ve been teaching for 11 years. I’ve helped a number of students reach their music goals, like two brothers that both discovered the love for saxophone in a school band I used to manage and we’re accepted into a performance school, or a young girl I taught who’s goal was to play her favorite video game song on the piano but continued learning cause she loved it. I could sit here writing all the accaliades I have but my main interest will always be helping you unlock your full musical potential.
My teaching experience dates back 11 years ago, where I started working for a company similar to this one that allowed me to grow and from there I went on to working for a number of music academies and even co-owning 2 of them. I worked as a school band director, a worship band director, a music instructor for children with special needs and I was the curriculum creator for the music education firm I ran with my business partner back in Puerto Rico. I recently had to relocate due to hurricane Maria but I hope my loss is you’re gain and I can help you achieve your goals.
I use a combination of different methods rather than one method. The parts to my approach is; 1) Exposure, by listening to high information music. 2) Discovery, becoming familiar with the chosen instrument by means of discovering how to make music with it and what are the possibilities with said instrument. 2) Association, by learning songs and pieces that the student is already familiar with. 3) Analysis, breaking apart songs and sounds that the student is familiar with to understand the theory behind it. 4) Aplication, by using the knowledge aquiered through learning familiar with to learn new pieces of music. The way I implement these steps varies from student to student but the essence remains the same. My ultimate goal is to help you realize your goals at your own pace.
Though there are many different ways to teach, I will gravitate more towards my preferred learning style which is through discovery and analysis. I enjoy finding different ways to tackle one specific task and I enjoy taking part in that journey with my students. Those moments when their eyes light up when they realize a whole new dimension of possibilities just opened up for them because they found a new piece to the puzzle. I understand not all students work the same way, that is why I tailor my lessons to each student. A more competitive student will want to push towards more technical proficiency to have an edge over their contemporaries or maybe a leisurely student that just wants to play yesterday on the piano for the next family get together.
