Being in the studio and creating songs had me pick up the piano, ukulele, and bass guitar which I then took on as instruments I teach. Through the years, I learned to concurrently teach the musical fundamentals to my students along with how those fundamentals apply to their instrument in a broad context! I intend to always tailor my lessons to my students desires, needs, and curiosity and keep the inspiration thriving. Read More

In early 2008, I began touring nationally with a Denton-based band, and now tour nationally with several Austin-based groups. While not on the road, I play with numerous groups in Austin, write and record original music in my home studio, and teach.. I bring my extensive music industry experience into each lesson. While teaching my students their primary instruments, I also strive to make the lessons well-rounded, incorporating theory, ear training, music culture and history. Read More

I teach all levels and my methods depend on the age and skill level of each student. Everybody learns differently and has different musical goals so I stay open-minded and tailor my lessons on an individual basis. for children and beginners, I focus on technique and very basic theory to get them started playing the songs they like. For intermediate students, I assess thier current skil level and breadth of knowledge so i can then help them expand and solidify thier musical groundwork. Read More

Instruments: Voice

Even though all students require different needs, I will usually start my lessons by warming up the voice with different exercises. After that, I will work on repertoire with the student. My favorite book for beginning singers is the 24 Italian Songs Arias. A lot of good habits and technique can be learned through repertoire. In my voice lessons, I'll focus on breathing, resonance, singer's health, good practice habits, musicianship, pronunciation/diction, and performance. Read More

My teaching style is to be sensitive to each student. Each person has a different relationship and understanding of music. I try to identify and accommodate the ways in which the student learns best. Some students need explicit instruction and to be pushed, others need gentle guidance with time and space to work things out for themselves. A student's personality and ambitions will inform whether they need a relaxed environment or a more assertive variety of instruction. Read More

I've been teaching voice and piano, both privately and in public schools, for 12 years in the Austin area. I have taught all ages and styles and am open to any kind of music. I believe in practice and routine as a foundation to learning, but also improvisation and experimentation. I learn best across multiple media and I LOVE using the internet and a variety of applications to supplement my student's studies. Read More

I began teaching others piano and voice when I was a teenager since I had already had 10 years of training and experience performing in front of thousands of people. I LOVE children (I have 5 of my own and one on the way!) and love how music opens up all kinds of creativity, emotions and imagination in them. Having done 15 European concert tours and been all over the states, the one thing we all share on this planet is a love for MUSIC. Read More
