PIANO STUDENTS: For beginners, I prefer the Bastien series. I like a lot of variety but am very careful to not give too much at once. It is better to become excellent at each thing slowly, than try to do a lot and not be that good at any of it. I am a stickler for starting out with scales and theory right away. Understanding rhythm right  away is of utmost importance as well. Read More

I always tailor my lessons to my students needs and desires and never waste time. Nothing is more important than a students progress and growth so I weed out all the irrelevant or potentially boring information in music lessons and cut straight to the chase of what is going to help the student learn and enjoy their progress. I encourage consistent feedback and communication so that I may know I am succeeding in navigating the students musical experience. Read More

Singing lessons should always be fun and positive. A student should come out of a voice lesson with new knowledge that they can then go and apply during their practice at home. I am a firm believer that most of the learning is done outside the lesson through the student's application of what he/she learned during the lesson. My belief is that I am a guide to the student, but the student must meet me halfway, so that we can learn from each other, work together, and find what works best for the student's voice. Read More

I believe in practice and routine as a foundation to learning, but also improvisation and experimentation. I learn best across multiple media and I LOVE using the internet and a variety of applications to supplement my student's studies. Read More

Witnessing the musical and personal growth in a student is endlessly rewarding! My approach to teaching is to give my students clear and obtainable goals at each lesson, so that they will have the tools they need to succeed. I also strive to discern the specific learning style of my students so that I may cater the lessons specifically to the individual. I am always so thrilled to be able to introduce students to a song/genre/composer that they are really excited about! Read More

I have been teaching continuously since 2002. I started by teaching undergraduate students at UT and continued in high schools and middle schools in the greater austin area. I encourage students to find the best fit for their interests and talents during lessons. Some students want to be able to sing better in church or school choirs, while others are interested in musical solos or college auditions. I will work with you to find out where you want to go together and we will make a plan to help you get there. Read More
