I strive to maintain an organized and positive environment for my students. I present a warm, encouraging presence; I very seldom provide the answer for a student. Instead, I will lead them in asking a series of questions which will help them arrive at the correct answer. Even though I have high expectations of every student, I meet them where their ability level and interests are. It is very much of a partnership between me, as teacher, and the student, as an individual. Read More

When I was a young viola student I was taught using the Suzuki method. For beginner-intermediate violin/viola students I find this to be very effective, and would supplement this with a variety of technique exercises as well as something of personal interest to each student (folk style, pop, etc). After some time, when I feel a student has a solid grasp of fundamentals, I will begin to introduce appropriate solo repertoire. Read More

When working with beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Alfred series. This method offers a comprehensive approach to learning the fundamentals of music, including rhythm, note reading, and instrumental techniques. As the student gains confidence and develops a solid understanding of these basics, I gradually introduce them to solo repertoire that is well-suited for their first recital performance. This not only helps them apply what theyve learned but also builds their performance skills and stage presence. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from Shorter University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance. I was very involved with the Opera Theatre at Shorter and performed many lead roles. I was also a member of the Shorter Chorale. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to sing in Austria, Italy, and South Africa while touring with my choirs. During my undergraduate time I was apart of those vocal ensembles and worked closely with professors and students to write, arrange and perform full length vocal compositions. Soon after graduation, I was a full-time musician giving freelance voice lessons, and also teaching jazz voice while an artist in residency at Duke Ellington. During my time at Duke, I continued to perform and record around Washington, DC. This is where I began to be recognized for my talent, and was approached by an independent label who would soon thereafter move me to Atlanta, Ga to pursue my goal of being a full-time artist. I have been teaching private lessons for about 15 years, as well as camps and workshops. I have served as a clinician and instructor at Drumline camps and with Orchestra. I created the Percussive Arts Institute of Ruston to bring music education to an underserved community and taught around 100 students in an after-school program. Most of my students study the fundamentals of piano and voice, and then Branch into either percussion, guitar, strings, or brass, as they develop their interests. Read More
