I recognize that every student is unique in the way they take in new information and progress in their playing/singing, so I do my best to successfully tailor each lesson to each students individual needs. My experience with vocal coaching started when I was a young girl helping to teach my church's choir parts for songs we had to learn. Once I went to college I joined the Gospel Chorale at Virginia State University where I helped guide the alto section for a month long European Christmas tour. I had the pleasure of coaching and singing on tour twice while in college. I graduated and went into teaching my own lessons while also assistant teaching for choir at a middle school. Read More

For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. Once the adults have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction towards that interest, all while keeping the lessons engaging and fun. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and results-driven, designed to meet each student exactly where they are. I believe every student learns differently, so I take a personalized approach—breaking concepts down into simple, practical steps that build both skill and confidence. I combine strong musical fundamentals with hands-on learning, so students aren’t just practicing exercises—they’re actively making music from the very beginning. Whether it’s piano or vocal instruction, I focus on helping students understand what they’re doing, not just memorize it, which leads to faster progress and lasting growth. Read More
