I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Next the focus becomes proper grip for mallets/sticks and embouchure placement for winds. Read More

There are two selected teaching methods that I confer with in order to select the most appropriate method for my students. For my beginning students, I select Schaum (Books 1-3) for piano lessons, and Benners Book One for theory lessons. The Schaum methods offers bright and color-coded books, which reflects that various learning levels. Once the students have attained the basic keyboard and theory fundamentals, the students will be given an assessment of their mastery, they will advance to the immediate level. Read More

I am an experienced music instructor dedicated to the success of my students, striving to impart to them the same passion that I have for music. In 2009, I graduated as valedictorian from Emmanuel College with a degree in Cello Performance and a minor in piano. My studies also focused on music theory, chamber music, and orchestra, as well as string and piano pedagogy. After graduation, I temporarily moved to teach music in a mission school in the Dominican Republic, where I lived for two years and became fluent in Spanish. Read More

My primary instrument is Viola, but I also have experience performing and teaching violin, piano, and a variety of vocal styles. As a violist I was assistant principal of the Peabody Concert Orchestra for two years, and the assistant principal of Baltimore-based Symphony No 1. Read More

For beginner kids, I typically use the Liela Fletcher Lesson Book series. I find that my students usually progress faster with this series. For teens and adult beginners, I use the James Bastien "Older Beginner Series or John Thompson series to get them started. After basic fundamentals have been I established then I direct the lessons in the area of the student's interest. Sometimes I am able to do this while the student is learning the fundamentals. I began teaching piano lessons as part of my mother's studio at the age of 15. Teaching music has been a constant career for me since that time, whether part-time or full-time, and it is a joy! I enjoy connecting with my students on a personal level and then helping them move forward in their study of music. It is a satisfying experience for me to guide my students toward a place of music appreciation and to assist them in learning to incorporate it into their lifetime pursuits! Read More
