I've been teaching piano, low brass, and composition for eight years, with students ranging from elementary school to graduate school. I have enjoyed teaching students individually as well as in group settings. My individual piano students have studied classical, jazz, and pop styles with me, and I've worked on classical/band music and jazz with my brass students. I enjoy teaching students of all ages, from all walks of life, background, cultures, and I have a passion for the community. I also work with the Autistic, ADHD, and Disability community. It's all about having a clear goal in mind and working towards it: we'll have conversations about objectives and musical preferences (classical? jazz? rock and pop?) and then develop goals based on those preferences (playing live? what kind of pieces/songs?). For beginning piano players I use Alfred's Basic music Library Books, which is a great course! There are books for children level, as well as adult books, which may be accompanied by a workbook and a recital book. Depending on the students level, I try to accomplish completing 1-2 pages in the book each lesson. For voice lessons, I use a variety of vocal warm ups and breathing techniques to help students prepare for songs of their choice. Read More

My spark of inspiration to teach comes from my years performing in college as part of my own band, as well as jazz ensemble and guitar ensemble. My first experience with teaching came from my first live shows with Art Wavey. As a songwriter, another duty often times overlooked is teaching the parts needed to complement the song. By explaining the theory behind the compositions in a clear, concise way, as well through direct representation through playing, I was able to convey complex ideas in a way that not only transferred to those being taught, but made it enjoyable as well.
