I have 10+ years of professional performing and instructing experience. I have pupils who have received high marks in middle and high school MSBOA solo and ensemble competitions for clarinet and flute. If a student comes in knowing absolutely nothing about music, I will start with teaching basic music theory. Extensive knowledge of music theory is not essential, but a basic grasp will make the learning process much smoother. From there - for stringed instruments - we'll move onto hand conditioning.
