I started teaching privately in highschool (2005). Since then, I continued teaching independent students as well as groups of musicians. I enjoy working with students of all ages and skill levels in the advancement of their techniques. I have taught students as young as 3 to the age of 75. I began taking piano lessons under the tutelage of two professors at the age of five. I continued these lessons until I turned 24. At 16 I began to work professionally as a musician. I have always loved music and play most every day. I feel that God gives us all gifts and music is one of them. My spark of inspiration to teach comes from my years performing in college as part of my own band, as well as jazz ensemble and guitar ensemble. My first experience with teaching came from my first live shows with Art Wavey. As a songwriter, another duty often times overlooked is teaching the parts needed to complement the song. By explaining the theory behind the compositions in a clear, concise way, as well through direct representation through playing, I was able to convey complex ideas in a way that not only transferred to those being taught, but made it enjoyable as well. I have had the pleasure of working with my students on several genres including spirituals, sacred songs, classical, popular music and some show tunes. Some of my students are dancers and want to be fully prepared for auditions by exhibiting vocal and instrumental skills. My students understand that they are in a constant state of learning, as there are always new things to learn vocally and instrumentally.
