This will help them to expand on their practices at home and feel empowered to create music on their own. Usually when I have beginning students, I typically begin by going over different exercises to build the strength and dexterity needed to play the instrument. I try to make the experience fun and entertaining by teaching various melodies and songs that can help understand the theory of what we're doing down the road. I have been teaching music for 8 years, starting while in college. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching students from ages 4 to 20 to sing and play instruments because if you're not having fun when you're doing music, you're not doing it right. I love getting to see my students have breakthroughs as they develop their own musical personalities. Piano students will also learn basic rhythm comping skills and learn what it's like to play in a rhythm section while I accompany them on drum set.  I have my lesson booklet available for purchase in which each student can design their own curriculum to meet their goals.  I also recommend additional books for each student as they develop more specific interests and needs.
