Students I work with will have technique, theory, ear training, or rote learning in my class. Students may also have a choice in repetoire as I get to know their style and genre.... Overall, students will be taught by me in their own learning styles. I will differentiate for each student as is needed. Some will need me to work with them by showing them, some through helping them read their music at their own pace. Read More

I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Next the focus becomes proper grip for mallets/sticks and embouchure placement for winds. Read More

Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation. Celebrating daily practice to turn goals into accomplishments, I love seeing my students learn, harness their determination to do more, learn more, and I love seeing my students happy with their self-worth. I began teaching piano lessons as part of my mother's studio at the age of 15. Teaching music has been a constant career for me since that time, whether part-time or full-time, and it is a joy! I enjoy connecting with my students on a personal level and then helping them move forward in their study of music. It is a satisfying experience for me to guide my students toward a place of music appreciation and to assist them in learning to incorporate it into their lifetime pursuits! Read More
