Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I graduated with a BM in Viola Performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in May 2017, and I am currently a graduate assistant within the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia. I am currently an active freelancer in the Chicago area as a teacher and performer. I have performed with several orchestras in the past, including the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, Brevard Music Center Orchestra, Masterworks Festival Orchestra, and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. For beginner kids, I typically use the Liela Fletcher Lesson Book series. I find that my students usually progress faster with this series. For teens and adult beginners, I use the James Bastien "Older Beginner Series or John Thompson series to get them started. After basic fundamentals have been I established then I direct the lessons in the area of the student's interest. Sometimes I am able to do this while the student is learning the fundamentals. At that age, it's all about their goals, since the students are self-sufficient and able to decide what's best for their goals on their own. As far as method books go, I like Hal Leonard's Essential Elements (I've used those methods a lot when teaching middle school band) for young students, Hanon's exercises and Bela Bartok's Mikrokosmos for intermediate piano, and trips to Guitar Center for adult guitarists (I'm serious: John Petrucci has a great method for Rock Guitar, for example). My teaching experience really doesnt go back far. I just been hired locally around my neighborhood to teach their kids piano and voice. My taking style though is very straight to the point and either easy to understand for example if I were to teach a student C major scale I would teach them the proper hand positions first then I would teach them the notes of the scale and how they correlate to the piano.
