I have been teaching private piano lessons for over 12 years and private clarinet and alto saxophone lessons for the past 5 years.  I enjoy watching students grow in their knowledge of music and have children of my own, so I know what it means to be patient and encouraging with all ages (including adults)!  I am also the Beginning Band Director of the Athens Area Homeschool Band and assist with solo festivals and auditions. My private students are encouraged to participate in a Christmas recital and spring music recital which is excellent motivation for them to practice and show off their skills.  I also tailor the lessons to the individual's needs.  For example, I use different method books with my younger piano students than with my older students or adults.  My clarinet and saxophone students are also encouraged to grow, whether it may to audition for a new group, prepare for a District or All-State Band audition, or play in a recital.

Throughout my career, I have performed as solo and group artist with with various opera and theater companies and performance venues throughout the world. I am also a composer in the making!  Currently, I am working on my first major musical, which is called "Beyond The Blues."  I have also had the humbling opportunity of being featured in the media and honored through several awards for my craft.

My teaching studio is equipped with two drums sets and practice pads to accommodate marching or drum set students.   I also have a full PA and two keyboards set up for piano students and accompanying purposes.  Each student is given an assignment for the week (or specified time) and will then pass off this lesson assignment (barrier) before receiving a new lesson.  Passing off not only includes demonstration of the lesson but also performing with me as I accompany them on the keyboards.  Each student progresses differently, so each will be encouraged and assisted while demonstrating each lesson task.

In voice, we will begin with the basics: posture, breathing, relaxation, and healthy use of your instrument. How you sing is just as important as what you sing. You will learn warm-ups and practice techniques, and about vocal placement and projection. For my advanced vocal students, we will work on diction, interpretation, character development, audition books and advanced music theory. We will work on audition materials and making strong 16 or 32-bar cuts that really sell you as a performer. If you’re interested in piano, I teach a classically-based curriculum. This is a great starting point for all instruments, especially piano! As you progress, we can easily work on other styles in which you’re interested. When it comes to the pieces we will work on, you may have input, but it is my job as an educator to broaden your horizons and prepare you to be a well-rounded performer. That being said, we will work on repertory from classical to musical theatre, jazz, or pop if you so desire. You are encouraged to bring in pieces that will compliment what we are covering in lessons. We will also learn music theory and work on music reading skills, as literacy is very important for your growth as an artist.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
