My teaching style starts with really trying to understand the student that I am teaching, when I can do that, it makes the whole process of teaching easier. For example, in my experience, something that works for some students, really wont work for others, and if I can identify why something isnt working for a student, I can give them the right tools to fix it. I will usually start with asking the student to play something for me or see what they want to learn, then give them things based on what I hear in their playing, or what they tell me. Read More

As we work on the short-term objectives, we also have the long-term goal of recitals and possibly other performances throughout the year. Music theory has a place in each lesson, as it is one of the basics for eventual success in musicianship. Read More

I also developed an after-school Chorus program, putting on Winter and Spring concerts, as well as several Broadway musicals. In 2001 I transferred to Mount Vernon, where I was able to continue and expand my program, incorporating concert band and all-grade musical performances for students from Pre-K to 6th grade. Essentially, I believe in methods for instrumental instruction. I have my favorites for each instrument I teach. A method is like a staircase with which the students are able to methodically progress in music and it is the fundamental for any particular style of music they would like to enjoy practicing and performing. Of course, additional material can also be added during the lessons according to the current level of the students and specific styles they would like to get acquainted with through their practice Read More
