I'm a passionate and motivated teacher and performer who loves working with students and sharing my love of music! I studied musical theatre and opera vocal performance at Southern Utah University. I have had many opportunities to perform locally and nationally including singing the National Anthem for the Paradise Bowl in 2002 making my first television debut. With my piano students, I prefer to use John Thompson’s piano method books, along with performance study, listening, and impromptu music theory/acoustics lessons when the subjects arise. Depending on the practice habits of the student, they should have at least 2-3 non-method book solo pieces prepared within a year’s time. Each lesson is tailored to what he student enjoys, finds challenging, and ultimately will benefit from. My vocal students will find lessons crafted specifically to their current vocal abilities, working on a wholistic approach to singing including acting, prana, yoga, health and fitness, self confidence, lifestyle coaching, and of course, the act of singing! There are some not-so-fun things about learning music (practice schedules and repetition) but there are plenty of resources out there to help students stay interested and motivated. Much of my lesson plan is specific to the age, experience, desire and ability of the student, but the basics tend to remain the same. I try to craft dexterity and melodic exercises to unite the ear and fingers, while crating a basic understanding of the theory involved, a rhythmic exercise which teaches comping and time, and assign a song to work on between lessons. I refer to this plan as "Theory, Time Tune." This technique was effective when assigned to me and I still use it to guide my own practice. Read More
