For very young piano/keyboard students, lessons go more smoothly if they know right hand and left hand, count to 10 and know ABC's. They learn to read music almost immediately, and I give them the tools to be able to pick up any piece of music and play it independently. Regular performance opportunities are provided to show off acquired skills and progress of students and application of knowledge is encouraged through original composition. Read More

I have been described by more than one student and several parents who have observed lessons with me as “energetically laid-back”. I have a great passion for music, and it comes through in the excitement I share with my students, with the hope that it inspires them to seek greatness for themselves in all aspects of their lives. We will set goals together, track their progress and they will feel challenged and pushed at times, but empowered with the knowledge that anything can be overcome with patience, persistence, and practice. For students who are young children, I like to start working on fundamental musical and singing concepts, including posture, breath management, pitch matching, music literacy, and expression. I work with each student to find songs which are appropriate for their voice, and songs they are excited about working on. For adult students, I aim to find out what the student's goals are and use my knowledge and resources to help them achieve those goals. Read More

As an instructor I want to give my students this knowledge as well. Within my private teaching studio I am most concerned with teaching my students the basics of healthy vocal production, as well as performance, and presentation skills. From this foundation they can build their artistry in a healthy and productive manner. Read More

Even though all students require different needs, I will usually start my lessons by warming up the voice with different exercises. After that, I will work on repertoire with the student. My favorite book for beginning singers is the 24 Italian Songs Arias. A lot of good habits and technique can be learned through repertoire. In my voice lessons, I'll focus on breathing, resonance, singer's health, good practice habits, musicianship, pronunciation/diction, and performance. Read More
