I always begin with an assessment lesson during which the student and I can become acquainted and I can learn the students ambitions, levels of development, and personal style. For voice students Ibegin with basic vocal technique, including the study of breathing, posture, voice placement, diction, and English and Italian pronunciation for singing. After assessment, I will parallel technical study with the study of period repertoire, genre styles, and stage presence. Read More

My teaching experiences have been positive, fun, and I've built good relationships with my students. My favorite part about teaching is seeing singers gain confidence in their singing ability and hearing their voices grow. I belive that any learning experience should be fun above all things. I learn a lot from my students, and I encourage them to take risks and opportunities to make them into better musicians. One of the most important things for me is putting my students out there and exposing them to new opportunities that will further enhance their singing and musical ability. Read More

Typically, I like to start every lesson by spending some time working on specific vocal techniques. Good fundamentals are very important - developing good singing habits while getting rid of bad ones is key to consistent improvement. I believe that as a teacher, the best thing I can do for a student is to give them the tools to succeed outside of the lesson. We also spend time practicing musicianship skills, which means time spent on ear-training and learning to read music. Read More

I am very disciplined as a musician and highly creative. I believe in balancing technique and theory with creativity. I love to help my students expand thier talents, and develop their confidence and their own sense of musical authority. Composition is my main forte', but i also believe that theory and technique are important as they provide a musician with a broader pallet to draw from when creating original thier works. Read More

The moment that I can connect a student with this body of knowledge is nothing short of magical. I will never tire of that pursuit and when that is reached, it is a reward beyond words. I know that with my 20+ years of successful instruction in this field that I have helped hundreds of people achieve their musical goals and to find the joy in accomplishing this. I am a personable and empathetic instructor who values the student's perspective that I must adopt to access the material at hand and to help them to absorb what is studied with patience and an element of play and fun. For beginning drum set students, the program I recommend is starting with Drum Set Essentials by Peter Erskine. As skills in rudiments and basic patterns develop, I go on to materials such as Syncopation by Ted Reed (reading, coordination, technique), and Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone (technique). For piano, I go over basic theory, major and minor scales, chords and arpeggios and work in Piano For Adults by James Bastien. Read More

I like a light, fun atmosphere during lessons, one that reflects the learning style and personality of each student. There are some not-so-fun things about learning music (practice schedules and repetition) but there are plenty of resources out there to help students stay interested and motivated. I like to reward accomplishments (stickers are always awesome) and offer opportunities for improvement. I work for a positive and balanced experience for every student. Read More
